Project focused on making new renewable bulk electricity available to enable growth.
South Africans have had to endure the ever-intermittent and increasing practice of load shedding. This monolithic beast has been described as exhaustively complex to manage when you listen to Eskom’s national grid command centre. But the fact is: Even though the problem is complex…
…The solution is simple.
The solution is the introduction of new generation from multiple sources. Whether it is achieved by restoring non-functional plant or whether it is to deploy new generation. The means are immaterial, the goal is to add new generation.
In 2019 the agricultural community of Mafube had endured enough hardship for them to realize they couldn't wait on the government to come up with a solution and FF Renewables was formed.
This self-reliance translated into the private financing, construction and operation of the first 480kW Solar Farm in the town of Tweeling. This led to the unification of the Farming community across the greater Mafube and enabled the next step. The next step was a 4.2MW Solar Farm in the town of Frankfort.
Today the FFR entity is 21 local investors strong and busy constructing its 3rd Solar Farm in the town of Villiers. The latest solar farm is initially scoped to provide 3MW in phase 1 to be expanded to 100MW in the near future. The planned expansion is aimed at luring commercial producers and manufacturers to the community to promote job creation and local economic growth where they have access to 24-hour supply with the added benefit of it being renewable energy which would enable these businesses to comply with international requirements.
FFR’s vision is local economic growth through inclusive engagement and collaborative engineering. The Frankfort Battery project being driven by the community structure will complement the FFR generation function well in moving the Mafube community towards a more stable energy supply.
FFR is very excited about the prospects for its latest collaboration with Frankfort Battery as part of its first step to getting Frankfort off loadshedding with the other towns to follow in time.
